Comparison of Different Pleated Blind Installation Methods

Which pleated blind installation method is the best? This question may seem a bit misleading. After all, what distinguishes a better method from a worse one? How can you tell if a particular mounting method is suitable? What criteria should be considered?

What Does “Good Installation” Mean?

The primary purpose of mounting is durability – it should last throughout the entire use of the pleated blind. We want our blinds to serve us for years. Their ease of cleaning helps avoid premature replacement for hygienic reasons.

On the other hand, it's beneficial if the installation can be easily disassembled. This is especially important for interior blinds, particularly if we plan to move and want to take them with us. The ability to dismantle the blind easily and reuse it in a new location is a real and practical need.

Key Requirements in Rental Apartments

In rental apartments, we prefer installation methods that do not interfere with the structure of walls or window frames. Although drilling into walls may be acceptable, damaging window frames can result in additional costs upon moving out. Fortunately, there are installation methods on the market that meet these requirements – they use adhesive or clamp mounts without affecting the window structure.

Drill-Free Installation Methods

Adhesive Instead of Drilling

Adhesive mounting is a simple solution in which adhesive tape replaces screws. Modern tapes are very durable, and their lifespan can last several years. However, it is important to note that repositioning the tape after it has been applied is difficult or impossible. Manufacturers often include spare tape strips in the set in case of incorrect installation.

An important quality factor of the tape is how easily it can be removed. Poor-quality adhesives may leave hard-to-remove residues, especially on wooden window frames. Before using cleaning agents, make sure they won't damage the wood or lacquered surface.

Mounting with Clamp Holders

Clamp mounting involves hanging the blind on the window frame using holders that press it against the window edge. It’s a convenient and quick solution that allows easy disassembly without leaving marks. However, poorly tightened clamps can cause the blind to shift. This issue can be solved by additionally using adhesive, which doesn't need to be as strong as in direct adhesive mounting.

However, this method is not suitable for pleated blinds that need to be perfectly fitted to the window pane. In such cases, screw mounting or adhesive is the only option.

Traditional Drilling – Is It Worth It?

Despite the availability of non-invasive methods, drilling remains popular. Why? Because it provides the most durable mounting, which is crucial for heavy blinds or pleated blinds that open both from the top and bottom. If you rent your apartment, always make sure that drilling into the window frames is allowed – it will save you unnecessary costs and stress.

What to Pay Attention to – Quality of Mounting Elements:

  • Screws: Make sure they are made of durable materials. Poor-quality screws can damage the frame or make disassembly difficult.
  • Adhesive Tapes: They should be strong but also easy to remove without leaving marks.
  • Clamp Holders: Made of sturdy plastic that won’t break during installation.
  • Tools: For installations that require drilling, choose the right tools – the wrong ones can damage screws or complicate the process.

Summary

There is no one-size-fits-all answer to the question of which pleated blind installation method is best – it all depends on individual needs, the type of apartment, and budget. Non-invasive installation is a great option for renters, while drilling is suitable when exceptional durability is required. Regardless of your choice, the quality of both mounting components and tools is key.
