Heat in the attic – which coverings should you choose for roof windows?
An attic is a very cosy place and a great space to make use of. You can set up a bedroom, a children's room, a home office or a guest room there. It does, however, have one drawback that becomes especially noticeable in summer – the rooms heating up strongly. On hot days the temperature in such an interior can rise quickly, and the intense sun coming through the roof windows can make it harder to rest, work and go about daily life.
A hot attic – where does the problem come from?
Roof windows are set at an angle, so they take in more sunlight than standard vertical windows. In addition, the attic sits at the very top of the building, directly under the roof, which means the rooms heat up faster. Heat from the lower floors also rises upward and can build up precisely in the upper parts of the building, so a hot attic quickly becomes a real issue.

Beyond everyday tricks, it is also worth paying attention to the condition of the roof's ventilation and insulation, especially if the problem with high temperature returns every summer. These, however, are measures that involve a bigger intervention in the building and cannot always be carried out right away. A temporary solution can be a portable air conditioner, and a more advanced option the installation of air conditioning. This is not always possible, though, especially in a rented flat or when we do not want to make bigger changes.
